Create an image depicting a mechanically altered or enhanced organic lifeform. The lifeforms do not necessarily have to be human. The mechnical additions need to have a clear purpose, whether for protection, for repair of an injury, for pure physical empowerment or enhancement or even for controlling or punishing the lifeform. The actual mechanical additions need to have an interaction and physical implementation into the body of the lifeform itself – ie it needs to actually have become a part of their body. This means that super x-ray glasses or pogo sticks that are permanently attached to their shoes do not count. The mechanical parts have to be incorporated into the actual body – the machine needs to have become one with the flesh via some sort of procedure.
Two categories will run simultaneously for the Machineflesh Challenge: 3D Stills and 2D Illustrations. This Challenge is a Work-In-Progress Challenge -- all contestants are required to post their work-in-progress images for community to critique/comment in order to qualify.

-
The mechanical body alterations can be hooked up to larger external machines.
-
Don’t limit yourself necessarily to typical sci-fi themes and substances. This could be a bizarre archaic fantasy world – they may even use wood in their mechanical devices.
-
Don’t create another Terminator. The Terminator is a cyborg that looks like an organic lifeform. Start out by designing an organic character, think about its environment and needs, and alter it accordingly.
-
If you choose the punishment route, try thinking about a criminal act and choose an appropriate torture or alteration for that specific crime.
-
If you choose to have some kind of weapon incorporated into the character, be creative about it. A person wondering around in society with a massive machine gun instead of a hand is going to have a hard time making friends or gaining access to most venues. Choose more ingenious and creative ways of incorporating weapon implementations.
-
Feel free to depict the surgical procedure of the mechanization process.
-
You don’t necessarily have to create a dark or disturbing character. Think about Wallace and Gromit – this type of theme can be pulled off in a humorous, fun way.
-
For consideration, please put some thought into your work and your story.
-
Remember to use your imaginations and have some fun! Please avoid recreating themes, designs or concepts that have been seen before.
